Introduction to Contemporary Cake Decorating- 2 Day (Workshop 8)

Inspired by the designs of Caitlin Mitchell (A Little Cake Place) students will learn some of the essential steps in creating contemporary decorated cakes. This class will teach students: how to torte and ganache first coat; cover a cake with squared-edges; quilted sides; wired fantasy flowers; and the importance of precision and preparation. Students are required to bring 2x6” round cakes to class. Take home: 6” high barrel elaborately decorated white cake on 10” white board with quilted sides and fantasy sugar flowers (RRP $275).
Day 1 · Introduction to course outline · Torting (layering), adding fillings
Day 2 · Cover cake board with fondant, patterned edges · Cover cake with fondant, squared edges · Create quilted pattern on fondant
Equipment required by students: *Images are examples of the work completed in class · Bake & Bring 2 x 6”round x 3” high mud cakes · 12” sq boxes for transporting finished cakes home · 2 x 6inch round cakes (cut to 3” high), 5” cardboard, 10” white covered board with legs · All items from the tool list – still to be provided (available for purchase at The Party Hut).
